Question about Facebook Statuses?

Sometimes I update my status but then I realize I've made a typo or something so I'll delete it. It deletes off my main page, but my old statuses that I don't want people to see...still show up on all of my friends' pages. Can someone help me fix this? It's really annoying and embarring lol thanks I don't understand why I've been having a problem with this for a week or so now. There are so many updates from me and I feel bad clogging up my friends' pages.
