Do i seriously have to wait up to a year to see my girlfriend?

I am currently in the DEP program and about to enlist in the Air Force.BMT is 8.5 weeks long and then(based on the jobs i picked)my tech school could be anywhere from 2 -10 months(i looked this up).Do I really have to go that long without seeing or talking to her? From what I understand,i won't even be able to call her until after tech school.
